Dear Arizona Chapter Members,
We, as a Chapter, are discussing taking donations at our next General Meeting in May, as we realize that this devastation in Haiti will not be quickly arrested, and these folks will be in need for a long time to come...look for more information on the website, as we finalize our plans.
If you are looking to do something locally (and soon), I think you'll find some great information from National's email below.
Historically, AMTA's members strive to make themselves available to help their neighbors, and we are proud to be affiliated with you all!
Take care, and hope to see you all in Phoenix in May.
Sincerely,
Lil Hackett, President, and the Board of Directors of AMTA AZ Chapter
National AMTA's recommendations and suggestions for helping out the desparately needing people of Haiti:
Dear Chapter Members,
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina's destruction in 2005, AMTA's chapters provided substantial monetary and volunteer assistance to help affected members get back on their feet, and to offer relief to rescue workers. Your compassion and generosity is still quite evident today, in the wake of Haiti's devastating crisis.
We have heard from many of you asking about how AMTA is helping those affected by the Haiti earthquake as well as how to best plan chapter-sponsored events and activities. Because there are no AMTA members in Haiti, we cannot offer direct assistance the way we did for members affected by Katrina. However, during this international crisis, our chapter volunteers can lead the way in providing support on behalf of the association.
There are numerous local opportunities for you and your chapter members to help those affected by the Haiti earthquake. You can discuss these with your board if your chapter wants to sponsor an activity, or you can contact these sources as an individual member.
We welcome you to utilize AMTA's Volunteer Connections (details are below), which requires minimal amounts of chapter volunteer time to coordinate successful activities in your state.
To offer massage to responders/rescue workers traveling to and from Haiti from your state, as well as people answering phones at agency offices, contact by clicking on these links:
