Help for Haiti

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

in future e-mails.

To offer massage to friends and family members of those affected in Haiti, you can contact organizations servicing Haitian communities in your state.

To hold fundraisers
for charitable organizations providing relief in Haiti:

AMTA's online
Volunteer Connections is the easiest way for your chapter and your state's individual members to quickly publicize events and activities. Once you send the following information to Melissa Spani, volunteer development program manager, she posts the event on the Help for Haiti section and sends a broadcast e-mail to all members in your state, notifying them of opportunities. Below are the steps to follow to submit any volunteer or member-led activities. If you have any questions, please contact Melissa.

Send the following information to Melissa by e-mail:

Event/Activity Title
Date
Location
♦Time: (Will there be shifts?)

Description of the event: Who do the proceeds go to? How much are you charging for massages? Massage volunteer responsibilities/requirements: Do they need to bring their own supplies? What types of massage are welcome?
Coordinator Volunteers: Do you need help organizing the event?
Other volunteers: Do you have other volunteer positions available that do not include massage? For instance, someone to take intake forms or check folks in, someone to monitor the lines, etc.
Contact information to volunteer: Who should interested volunteers contact? You can list a chapter volunteer if you want to track volunteers, or someone from the charity organizing the event.

Also, when you post your events on Volunteer Connections, all AMTA members and the National Office are aware of the important things you are doing to help Haiti. Currently, the Florida Chapter is planning a fundraiser for the Red Cross, the New York Chapter is contacting Haitian community organizations to offer help, and AMTA member Bruce Baltz is helping organize Massage for Haiti in New York, where therapists will offer massage for a $1/minute for a Haiti-related charitable organization.

On behalf of AMTA's staff, thank you again for your compassion and concern. We find it very rewarding to be associated with you!

If you have any questions or concerns, or want to share an idea for helping Haiti, please contact Laura Sabransky, chapter relations program manager.
